چکیده

Background A combination of isoniazid (INH), rifampicin, pyrazinamide and/or ethambutol (anti-tuberculosis drugs, ATDs) is commonly used for the treatment of tuberculosis. A significant clinical problem is that drug treatment is associated with mild elevations of liver enzymes that occasionally develop into severe liver injury. The culprit drug(s) and mechanistic basis of the reaction has not been defined. Thus, the aims of this study were to (1) explore whether drug-responsive T-lymphocytes were detectable in patients with ATD-related liver injury, (2) identify the drug(s) that activate T-cells and (3) characterize the nature of the T-cell response.

Successful diagnosis of hyperpyrexia induced by isoniazid in a child with suspected extra-pulmonary tuberculosis.

A 9-year-old boy received a rifampicin-isoniazid-ethambutol regimen for suspected extra-pulmonary tuberculosis, and glucurolactone and vitamin B6 to provide liver protection and decrease neurotoxicity associated with isoniazid. Baseline serum aminotransferase and total bilirubin levels were within normal limits before anti-tubercular treatment. After 4 days of treatment, the patient's body temp...

Evaluation of Hepatoprotective Effect of Silymarin Among Under Treatment Tuberculosis Patients: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Hepatic toxicity is the most serious adverse effect of anti tuberculosis drugs. This study was performed to evaluate efficacy of silymarin as a hepatoprotective herbal agent. In a randomized double blind clinical trial 70 new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis were divided into two groups. The intervention group was assigned to receive silymarin and the control group received placebo. Tuberculosis...

Antituberculosis Drug-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Iranian Tuberculosis Patients: Role of Isoniazid Metabolic Polymorphism

The aim of this study was to determine the association of n-acetyltransferase-2 polymorphisms and anti-tuberculosis drug-induced hepatotoxicity in Iranian pulmonary tuberculosis patients. Acetylating phenotypes was studied in 50 Iranian pulmonary tuberculosis patients using metabolic ratio of plasma acetyl-Isoniazid to Isoniazid. The association between hepatotoxicity and the n-acetyltransferas...
